I have an undergraduate degree from Western Carolina University and a Master's degree (Elementary Education) from Salem College. I hold a NC K-6 teaching license. I have previously taught in grades 1st through 5th and have enjoyed them all.  I have also enjoyed working as a Primary Reading Teacher.  The past several years I have worked in this capacity in 1st and 2nd grades.  The 2011-2012 school year is my sixth year at Lewisville Elementary School....what a great place to work!  I am excited this year to be teaching full-time in 1st grade. I have a wonderful class and I really appreciate many things about this age group.

I worked in the airline industry for 10 years before becoming a teacher, thus I will often integrate geography and Social Studies concepts into my other classroom lessons, particularly reading. As I have done in the past, this year I will again be teaching the full scope of the Social Studies and Science curriculum through the integration of reading and writing.  I do this through whole group activities, small reading groups, as well as through the use of our workbooks, other supplemental literature, and technology.

I live in Winston-Salem with my husband, my  two wonderful daughters, and too many pets to name. I am a native of Brevard, NC and grew up in the mountains of western North Carolina. I have lived in the triad for 16 years. My hobbies are reading, fitness, travel, and exploring other cultures. I am absolutely crazy about horses!
